James hated school, but he’d be lying if he said that he wasn’t looking forward to the upcoming year. It would be his final year at Hogwarts. He was looking forward to leading the Gryffindor Quidditch team to victory. They would win the Quidditch cup this year, he was sure of it. He was going to work his team hard this year, probably make a lot of them hate him, but James didn’t really care. He really wanted to win that cup. His family went to walk into Flourish and Blotts, but he hung back, watching the crowd gather at Quality Quidditch Supplies. “Dad, I’m gonna go look at the new broom, okay?” he asked, but ran off before his father could reply.
He joined the crowd, fighting to get closer. He wanted it, but he’d already asked and was told that they wouldn’t buy it for him. Since he was planning on playing professional quidditch when he was done with school, James had decided to save up any money he was given in order to buy it. The one he had now was okay and was pretty fast, so it would be fine for the rest of the year, but he knew for the pros, he needed something a lot faster. He would need the new one. James looked at it a little longer before fighting his way back out and went to his uncle’s shop.
He already had all of the pranks he needed for the year, but it didn’t hurt to go and look around. Besides, he wanted to talk to his uncle about the big prank he was going to pull at the end of the year, so he could go out with a bang and make sure everyone remembered his name. James walked into the store, greeted the employees and made his way down an aisle to look at stuff. Not paying much attention to his surroundings, he didn’t realize there was anyone else around until he bumped into someone. “Sorry,” he said, looking at the person he ran into. “Oh, hi, Olivia. Ready for school to start?”

July 3 was the day you were born. You were the first child of Harry and Ginny Potter and they couldn’t be more thrilled to have you. Your mother always told you stories of that day. She told you about how it was raining, but when you smiled for the first time, it was like you lit up the whole world. She went so far as to say that the rain stopped and the sun came out the second you smiled. Your whole family was there to see you and you were passed around to everyone. You never smiled, just looked up at all the redheads curiously, until you got to your uncle George. Your mother always said she figured you would be a troublemaker because he was the second person you smiled at.[break][break]
You were a happy baby. You rarely cried or fussed about anything. You loved sitting on the floor, playing with your mom while your father was at work and you loved spending time with him when he returned. Then an intruder came into your happy world. You were a year old when your parents dropped you off with your grandparents. Your grandmother kept telling you that you were going to have a little brother and, for some reason, she was happy about it. You didn’t know what there was to be happy about. You didn’t want a brother. You wanted it to remain just you and your parents.[break][break]
You were finally taken to the hospital and laid eyes upon the small baby in your mother’s arms. You hated him in the beginning. You wanted nothing to do with him. Your parents paid a lot of attention to him, attention that you wanted. They still paid attention to you and you knew they still loved you, but it just wasn’t the same with Albus around. As you got older, though, you grew to love him. You spent more time with him, enjoyed playing with him. He was no longer an intruder who wanted to take your parents away. He was your best friend.[break][break]
You were two when your parents dropped you and Albus off at your grandparents. This time you were old enough to understand you were about to become a big brother again. You looked forward to this new baby. You would sit in your grandfather’s lap and tell him all about how you had a little sister coming. You barely remember him telling stories about how you reacted to Albus’ birth. Your response was always; “No, Albus is my friend.” It was weird to think that there might have been a time when you didn’t want him around.[break][break]
The first time you saw Lily, you wanted to hold her. Your parents had to tell you that you were too young. You were disappointed, but it didn’t stop you from asking if you could help out whenever you saw your mother taking care of her. There were a few things you were able to do, mainly handing things to your mother when she was holding Lily and there was once you were allowed to hold the bottle when Lily was eating. For the most part, though, you would just play with your brother and attend Quidditch games with your father. You enjoyed them a lot and started asking your father for a broom, so you could fly just like them.[break][break]
When you were five, you finally got your wish. It was a birthday present and your face lit up when you saw it. Although your mother wasn’t thrilled about you learning to fly so young, she allowed it, though you were only allowed on the broom when your father, uncle George or uncle Ron were around to watch you. Your father was your main teacher, though the others were around to give advice or to yell at you when you were going to fast.[break][break]
After you got the broom, that was all you wanted to do. Every time the family got together, you’d want to start a game of Quidditch. Sure, you still did other stuff and there were times where you’d even join in when they were playing a game you thought looked fun, but flying was still your favorite thing to do. There was nothing that could beat it in your eyes. There was absolutely nothing that was better than it. [break][break] The day your Hogwarts letter arrived, you were upset. You didn’t want to go to Hogwarts. You wanted to stay at home, so you could stay with your siblings and continue spending a lot of time flying. Sure, you knew Hogwarts had Quiddtich games, but your father was the only one to have made the team in first year. It was highly unlikely that you would make it. You would have to focus on your studies. [break][break] Unfortunately, you were forced to go and soon, the day came when you had to say goodbye to your siblings on the platform.[break][break]
The train ride was pretty enjoyable and you sat with a couple of kids that were just starting school, too, but you didn’t talk to them much. You pretty much just looked out the window. It was a scenic route and that, combined with trying to ignore the stares of the other kids, took your mind off of the fact that your siblings weren’t there to enjoy it with you. Everyone knew who you were. Anyone who grew up in the wizarding world, anyway. Your father was famous and, because of your appearance, particularly the messy black hair, it was easy to tell that you were his son.[break][break]
The boat ride wasn’t half as much fun as the train ride was and you were happy when it was over. The only difference was that you talked to a couple of people on the boat. They weren’t interested in your father, never even brought him up. They were actually interested in talking to you. The sorting was next, which you were excited for. You didn’t know what house you were going to get, but hoped it was Gryffindor. Almost everyone in your family had been in that house, so it was the only one you wanted. You weren’t nervous when you sat on the stool and the hat was put on your head. You heard a small voice say, “Ah, Potter’s son,” and a moment later it yelled Gryffindor and you ran off to join that table.[break][break]
The first year was spent exploring the castle, figuring out where everything was. You were pretty friendly to people, attempted to make friends, but, you didn’t make that many. You weren’t willing to let your guard down in order to make more friends. Still, some people managed to break through and they became the best friends you’ve ever had. You spent some time with your cousins, too, but not too often. Second and third years were uneventful. You tried out for the Quidditch team, but didn’t make it both times. You began thinking that you just weren’t good enough and you were considering giving up, figuring if you hadn’t made it yet, you weren’t going to.[break][break]
During fourth year, your friends talked you into trying out. You figured you weren’t going to make it, so when you found out that you were one of Gryffindor’s new Beaters, you were thrilled. You sent a letter home to your parents with the news. With the practices and games, focusing on your studies became harder. Your grades suffered and you were close to failing, but with the help of a study group you and your friends created, you were able to bring up your grades. Although they weren’t great, they were good enough for you to move up a year.[break][break]
In fifth year, you met a girl. She became your first girlfriend. You were in love with her and wanted to spend as much time with her as you could. Every Hogsmeade weekend, you would go to Madam Puddifoot’s on a date and would spend some time walking around the village, shopping a little, before meeting your friends at the Three Broomsticks. You were a little worried of what would happen when the year ended, but you stayed in touch. Owls were sent back and forth until one day, you didn’t hear from her. Because school would be starting again soon, you just assumed it was because she was busy getting ready to go back. [break][break] That wasn’t the case, though. You tried talking to her on the train, but she acted as if you didn’t exist. You were heartbroken. It was a couple of months before you were able to move on. It changed you, though. You were no longer interested in long-term relationships. You dated around, never going out with a girl for very long. Usually, after a three days to a week, you broke up with them. By the end of sixth year, you were known as the biggest heartbreaker Hogwarts had ever seen.
